Workforce Training

Since we are competing in a global marketplace, the importance of workforce training has never been greater. The Kentucky Skills Network gives workers the necessary training to compete globally. Our goal is to meet and exceed industry needs for customized, flexible and industry-driven skills training by tailoring skills training for new, expanding and existing companies.

Training Incentives

The Kentucky Skills Network offers a variety of funding options to help companies with flexible, affordable skills upgrade training. Here are two funding options:

  • 1. The Grant-in-Aid program provides funding for worker training at Kentucky’s new and expanding companies and for skills and occupational upgrade training for workers of Kentucky’s existing companies. Qualified companies include manufacturers, service and technology companies, public hospitals and training consortia.
  • 2. The Skills Training Investment Credit program offers state tax credits for approved training programs for existing employees of companies within the manufacturing; agricultural processing; telecommunications; R&D; health care; mining; tourism, tool & die; machine technology and transportation sectors.

Both programs are overseen for the Kentucky Skills Network by the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation.

Customized Training

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) is the Kentucky Skills Network’s primary provider of workforce education, delivering programs and services that address the needs of both businesses and workers. Our statewide system of colleges provides anytime, anyplace customized training and support services for business and industry.

In many circumstances, KCTCS training can be provided at a reduced cost through grant funding. Through grants administered through KCTCS companies receive funding to assist with the cost of providing workforce training and assessment services to current, as well as potential, employees.

To learn more about the training and funding opportunities in your area contact a KCTCS representative or the Kentucky Skills Network team leader in your area.

OSHA & Safety Training

The Kentucky Skills Network strives to ensure the Commonwealth’s workplace is a safe and healthy environment. That’s why the Kentucky Skills Network provides free safety and health training to employers and employees. This online training portal has certifiable courses available in both safety and health. These short classes are self-guided, interactive, internet-based classes available to any Kentucky employer and employee with internet capability.

Kentucky also offers employers free consultative services. A consultative survey is a courtesy inspection (workplace evaluation) conducted at the specific request of an employer or employer representative. The purpose of a survey is to encourage and assist employers in providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees by identifying workplace hazards and violations of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Program standards.

Registered Apprenticeship Training

The need for highly skilled workers in Kentucky is more critical than ever. That’s why the Kentucky Skills Network puts a high priority on an apprenticeship training system. Its goal is to produce highly skilled workers able to meet the demands of employers. Apprenticeship is an industry-driven concept that focuses on on-the-job training and is supplemented by technical classroom instruction. This nationally recognized certification has apprenticeship programs for a variety of careers and industry sectors.
