Kentucky Hosts Business Seminar in Japan

Governor Ernie Fletcher and Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Gene Strong hosted an investment seminar in Nagoya during a recent economic development trip to Japan. A number of Japanese business executives attended the seminar where detailed information was presented regarding how to establish a business in the United States, and more specifically in Kentucky.

The seminar entitled "From Site Selection to Grand Opening" took place on November 14th at Westin Nagoya Castle Hotel. Topics presented included available industrial sites and buildings, workforce, wages and benefits, taxes, incentives, utilities, environmental regulations, supplier identification, quality of life and much more.

Kentucky has operated a representative office in Japan since 1983, under the direction of Jiro Hashimoto, Director of the Far East Office. The office has had tremendous success in its mission to attract Japanese investment to the commonwealth. Kentucky is currently home to 144 Japanese-owned manufacturing facilities which employ over 37,000 people throughout the state.
