According to the June 2006 issue of The Small Business Advocate:

  • America's home-based sole proprietors generate $102 billion in annual revenue.
  • The average home-based sole proprietor earned $22,569 in annual net income. 

According to IDC, "SOHO Market Overview 2003: Small Businesses with Fewer than 10 Employees and Home-Based Businesses":

  • The typical home-based business has been in operation for 10.7 years.

According to IDC, "U.S. Home Office 2004-2008 Forecast", March 2004, the number of U.S. home-based businesses in 2005 that:

  • Generated income: 13.8 million
  • Generated their own primary income: 9.7 million
  • Generated a part-time income: 4.2 million

According to IDC, "Web Site Development in U.S. Small Businesses", June 2004:

  • The average annual revenue of a small business is $3.6 million
  • The average annual revenue of a small business with a Web site is $5.03 million.     
  • The average length in business is 11.2 years.

According to SBA's, "Dynamics of Minority-Owned Employer Establishments, 1999-2001", February 2005:

  • Minorities own 15.1 % of all U.S. businesses, or more than 3 million firms, and 99% of these firms are small businesses.

According to the Center for Women's Business Research, December 2004:

  • Women own 10.6 million businesses in the United States.
  • They employ 19.1 million workers--that's one in every seven employees.
  • Their businesses account for $2.5 trillion in annual sales.

According to the Center for Women's Business Research, "A Compendium of National Statistics on Women-Owned Businesses in the U.S.", September 2001:

  • 19% of all women-owned businesses used $10,000 or more to start their business.
  • 8% of women-owned businesses used $50,000 or more to start their business.

According to Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index, August 2005:

  • Small-business owners work an average of 52 hours per week.

According to JA Worldwide Interprise Poll, September 2005:

  • 69% of teens say they would like to start their own business; 25% saying they would like to start a retail business.
