Site Selection magazine's March 2007 issue recently placed Kentucky at 13th in the nation for new corporate facilities and expansions.

Kentucky Ranks 13th in Site Selection Magazine's Governor's Cup

Site Selection magazine’s March 2007 issue highlights the states’ new and expanded industry activity for 2006. The print version of the publication was released in error showing only 45 announced projects for Kentucky during 2006. The magazine’s online version is corrected showing Kentucky’s 177 announced projects in 2006 and may be viewed at http://www.siteselection.com/issues/2007/mar/cover/.

The corrected figures place Kentucky 13th in the 2006 Site Selection Governor’s Cup awarded annually to U.S. states with the most new corporate facilities and expansions. Kentucky has the smallest population of any of the states in the top 15. The online corrected totals also provide other notable rankings for Kentucky including:

  • Kentucky also ranked 13th in the 2006 Site Selection magazine list of states with the most new announced corporate facilities and expansions over the three year period 2004 to 2006. For the three year rankings, Kentucky again has the smallest population of any of the states in the top 15.
  • Kentucky tied for 7th for the 2006 Top States with Most Micropolitans in Top 100 with 6 Micropolitan areas qualifying for the top 100.
  • Kentucky tied for 9th for 2006 Top States with Most Top Metros with 5 metro communities in the top 100. 
  • Six Kentucky communities ranked in Site Selection’s 2006 Top 100 U.S. Micropolitans for new and expanded facility expansions in 2006.  The communities are Paducah (T24), Danville (T60), Somerset (T36), Frankfort (T60), Mt. Sterling (T36), and Union City, TN-KY region (T60).
  • Kentucky ranked 5th in the 2006 Site Selection magazine list of top states with expanded manufacturing facilities in 2006.
  • Kentucky ranked 5th in the 2006 Site Selection magazine list of top states with expanded manufacturing facilities from 2004 to 2006.
