Cabinet to Participate in BIO 2007 Conference
Kentucky will be participating at BIO 2007, the annual international convention of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), being held May 6-9 in Boston, Massachusetts. Approximately 20,000 attendees from more than 60 nations are expected at the conference and exhibition, which last year held the largest gathering of biotechnology exhibitors in history, including more than 1,700 companies, organizations, and institutions. The convention provides Kentucky with the opportunity to enhance its reputation as a leader in the global biotechnology marketplace.
At BIO 2007, the Cabinet for Economic Development will again provide personnel to offer attendees expert advice about business opportunities in Kentucky and to help coordinate the activities of volunteers staffing the 800 square foot state pavilion. Several startup biotech companies from Kentucky will help staff the booth, as will representatives of local economic development organizations and state universities from across the commonwealth. A large, lighted sign above the pavilion and other signage throughout the exhibit hall will give the Kentucky name and Unbridled Spirit logo unprecedented visibility before the international biotech audience.
During the convention, on the evening of May 8th, the Kentucky Governor’s Reception for invited guests will be held at the Boston Harbor Hotel. The reception provides a unique opportunity for Kentucky’s friends and potential business partners to network and interact with the state’s biotech companies, organizations, and institutions. Last year, the Chinese, French, German, and other delegations made a special point of attending the event hosted by Governor Ernie Fletcher and First Lady Glenna Fletcher.
This year’s reception will be co-hosted by the Kentucky BioAlliance, which was organized in late 2006 as a gateway for increased collaboration and knowledge exchange among bioscience industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and institutions across the state.
The goal of the Kentucky BioAlliance is to promote commercialization, investment, and job creation in the biosciences and life sciences and to implement programs and promote policies that advance growth in the biotechnology sector. Kentucky BioAlliance aims to facilitate interactions among state institutions and private sector companies, serve as a partner between federal, state, and regional interests, act as a central resource for bioscience information and resources, and promote the combined strengths of Kentucky to national and international audiences. |
